Inside the Medina

A room built out of what it collects

Plates, books, records, calligraphy and a wall of woven baskets — the decor is the name made literal.

Inside the Medina

What the evidence shows

Culture Box sits at 14 Rue de la Poste in the Fès Medina and calls itself a cafe, restaurant and pizzeria on its own board. The ground floor is tiled and bright, with a column hand-painted in Arabic calligraphy; a second dining floor sits above it, and the terrace outside is hung with woven Moroccan plates.

The kitchen is unusually broad for the Medina: Moroccan tagines, couscous and pastilla next to Italian pizza and pasta, Indian curry, chilli con carne and Cantonese rice. Public reviews call it good value and repeatedly praise the staff. This is a preview built from public sources — the owner’s own story belongs in the final site.

Details of the room

The strongest public photographs are the plate walls and the calligraphy column. Owner-supplied originals should replace traveller photography before a production launch.

What guests remember

“Very nice staff, our waiter was especially attentive and helpful. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. I have a severe shellfish allergy and just like they stated on the menu, they were able to accommodate me — I got to enjoy their awesome seafood pasta. We paid 240 dh for 2 mains, 2 drinks and a dessert.”

“I have been here twice during my vacation in Fes. I had really good couscous that was not particularly spicy. Both times the dishes were prepared in a balanced way, without overdoing it with spices.”
